Transmission Fluid Service

Transmission fluid cools, cleans and lubricates, and it wears out with heat. Fresh fluid is one of the cheapest things you can do for the most expensive part of the car. We use the fluid your transmission is built for, because the wrong one can do real damage.

What the job involves

  1. 1Check the level and condition of the fluid, and look for leaks.
  2. 2Replace the old fluid using the method the manufacturer calls for, a full exchange or a drain and refill.
  3. 3Replace the filter and pan gasket where your transmission has them.
  4. 4Refill to the correct level with the specified fluid, then road test it.

When you need it

If any of these sound like your car, bring it in and we will look at it.

  • At the interval in your owner's manual
  • Sooner if you tow, haul, or drive a lot of stop and go traffic
  • The fluid looks dark or smells burnt
  • Shifts feel slow, harsh or slip

If a transmission is already slipping badly, new fluid is not a repair. We will tell you honestly whether a service is worth doing before you pay for one.
